                                         PROCEDURE FOR MEMBERSHIP

The Institute:

The Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters was founded in 1981.  It became Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters of Nigeria in 2015 when it was Chartered by the National Assembly Act No.16, 2015 of Federal Republic of Nigeria.  It has its National Secretariat at No 137, Egbeda Idimu Road Ile-epo Alhaji Bus stop Egbeda Lagos, PMB 038, Shomolu Lagos, Nigeria. 

The Institute is a leading recognized professional body in Nigeria dedicated to ensuring excellence in secretarial and official reportorial practice and further education of secretaries and verbatim reporters who are involved or wishing to be involved in the arts and science of secretarial/verbatim reportorial services in both sectors of our national economy.  The Institute is to further ensure professional ethics, high standard and sound knowledge of members in the profession, through professional trainings and updates in the form of courses, seminars, workshops, conferences and professional examinations.

Membership:

There are three membership grades to which a candidate may be admitted.

  1. Student member
  2. Graduate member
  3. Associate (ACSR) member

Minimum Entry requirement for Graduate is HND/BSc/PGD. For Associate members, it is Master’s degree in relevant fields of OTM, ICT and Management Sciences.  Student members are admitted with NCE/OND certificate.  They will sit for modules I, II and III examinations of the Institute before they can qualify to become Graduate members.  They will further sit for the professional examinations PE I, PE II & PE III to qualify for certified Associate (ACSR) membership grade.   However, NCE holders with maturity and work experience may be granted subject by subjects’ exemption.

The other two membership grades, distinguished MEMBER (MCSR) and prestigious FELLOW (FCSR) are Awards given by the Governing Board to honour deserving members for excellent performance in the profession, contribution and service to the Institute, and humanity.

 Steps to Register as Member

The first step for registration as a member is to complete the Standard Membership Application Form (SMAF). You can visit our website www.cicsrng.org to download and complete Membership

Form (click “Membership“, fill and submit the form).  Members however may be required submit hardcopy of registration documents for clarity.

The next step is to submit the Membership application form either online, by post or in person to the National Secretariat accompanied with

  1. Clean photocopy of certificates and credentials
  2. Four copies of recent passport photograph
  3. One copy of current CV
  4. Ten (10) pieces of postage stamp @ N150
  5. Marriage Certificate – or change of name where applicable
  6. The sum of N37,000 payable to ICSR UBA Account No. 1000535871 or FBN Account No 2000861708 covering the registration and admission fee for Graduate members.

Note: Purchase and submission of the application form is not in itself an act of membership registration with the Institute until Registration documents and Membership Number are issued.

On receipt of the above requirements, individual prospective member is assessed by the Membership Committee of the Board and grade of admission is conveyed to the candidate in a Provisional Letter of Admission (PLA).  The grade and class of admission awarded by the Membership Committee is final.  Any other condition of membership and nature of examination where necessary will be contained in the provisional letter of Admission.

On satisfaction of all the above, a Letter of Registration  (LOR) containing Permanent Membership Number otherwise called Personal Identification Number (PIN) is issued and thenceforth, the candidate becomes a graded registered member of the Chartered Institute of Certified Secretaries and Reporters of Nigeria as provided in the Establishment Act No. 16 of 2015.

Students Members Fee:        

Students in tertiary Institutions will form Students Association of CICSRN in group as students’ members.  They will be able to write the Institute’s professional qualifying examinations.  The sum of N2,500 for Membership form and N5,000 for student Registration is applicable.  The student’s annual renewal fee is N2,500 only.

Procedure for Membership Certificate:

  • A new member must attend at least two Mandatory Continuous Practice Development Program (MCPDP)

       (b)  Attend Professional Skill Development Seminar at a fee of N40,000 (current fee) with certificate

       (c)  Must have consistently paid annual membership subscription for two years before

               customized Membership certificate can be release.

       (d)  Attend Annual National Conference held in November every year

       (e)  And or passed the final professional examination (PE I, PE II & PE III) and be duly inducted.

Induction/Certification ceremony of newly enrolled members is held as a special programme or during the Institute’s AGM for a fee of N25,000 for Graduate/Student members and N45,000 for Associate Members.

It is at such colorful ceremony of Induction/Certification that new members are received and presented to the entire members of the Institute by the President/Chairman of Board of the Institute.

The Institute’s Examinations:

The Institute’s examinations are designed for student members at modules I, II & III and PEI, PE II & PE III for Graduate members.  Associate members are registered through Direct Admission (DA) on a fee of N332,000 covering examination exemption, Induction, Professional Skills Development Seminar and certification. Any fee paid earlier will be deducted from this total amount.

Success in modules I, II & III leads the Student member to becoming professionally graded Graduate member of the Institute while success in PEI, PEII & PE III qualifies a Graduate member to be professionally graded certified Associate (ACSR) member permitted to use the designatory letters “ACSR” after his/her name.
